Niche is the future

Ok, Ok, you have an account at Myspace.com, Friendster.com, Match.com, Americansingles.com, Classmates.com and if you’re really lucky Asmallworld.net.  You get the idea.  The web has dozens of established networking sites that allow people to stay in touch with old friends and constantly make new ones.  But members of these sites can often feel isolated and that the “friends” in their network aren’t real.  This is a problem that many networking sites are trying to correct. By connecting users who share a common goal, interest or bond; these niche sites aim to fuse a stronger connection between its members.   A simple search of networking sites on wikipedia.org pulls up over 50 different web addresses.   Many of these sites are developed around the nationality or race of users, but there are still may others that cover every interest a user could have. From sports to business investments to sites dedicated to posting photos.  One such site is Flickr.com which allows members to upload digital pictures and allows for other members to view and comment on the pics.  Or better yet there is 43things.com that allows users to list 43 goals and document their progress as well as connect with others who have the same goals.  A site that has just recently launched is Sweetsecond.com a site that has been described as Myspace for divorced singles.  Sweetsecond allows for divorcees to network with others who have gone through the same ordeal.

With Web 2.0 now in full swing, it seems that now there is something for everybody (literally).  Now it’s up to users to dig in and find their niche.
